Televised Event of the Year or Twisted Side Show?

Is it totally sick that I am beside myself with excitement over the announcement that Nik Wallenda will cross the Niagra Gorge on a tightrope on June 15th? Wallenda has been lobbying bureaucrats on both sides of the border for months to be able to do this stunt.
Even with the 2012 Summer Olympics I'm going to go out on a limb here, or tightrope as it may be, and say this is going to be the televised event of the year. I will certainly be among those glued to their TVs June 15th to watch. I may even head out there in person for this death defying spectacle. At least I hope he defies death. Or do I? See that's what's so sick about the whole thing.
Watching a man walk is hardly a ratings grabber. Knowing that the man could plunge 200 feet to his death on live TV? That can capture the imaginations of millions, the sick and twisted imaginations of millions.
