Teacher's Strike Illegally Friday - Parents To Bill Union

Kawartha's

1/9/2013

Elementary school classes in the Kawartha's will not be held on Friday because of an illegal province-wide one day strike by teachers.  Their union has directed the teachers to further protest the provincial government's decision to impose new collective agreements.

A letter sent by the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board to parents of the elementary students suggests they should "strongly consider making other arrangements for their children Friday, and that schools will not provide normal programming but will remain open on an emergency basis only."  At this time, the board "cannot determine the level of supervision that schools will be able to provide throughout the day."

The board expects normal activities to resume on Monday.

Meanwhile,  some local parents are saying they'll bill the union for day care needed for their children since they say 72 hours of notice has not been given.

And there has been talk in the community of some Public School  ratepayers transferring support to the Catholic Board from the Public Board given the ongoing situation.
